Pendidikan berbasis lingkungan seringkali dimulai dari yang terdekat. Bisa jadi dimulai dari rumah, sekolah, keluarga, atau teman sebaya. Dalam hal ini, SMP Taruna Jaya I Surabaya berusaha untuk mendorong para siswanya, agar dapat memahami dan menjalin hubungan dengan lingkungan sekitar mereka. Kami mengasumsikan, bahwa kesadaran lingkungan, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk belajar oleh para siswa, akan dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap keberadaan sistem yang lebih besar. Jadi, para siswa akan senantiasa dirangsang untuk menyikapi isu-isu lokal, selain tetap memperhatikan isu-isu yang lebih luas, dan memiliki pemahaman terhadap aneka penyebab, koneksi, dan konsekuensi atas perkembangan kondisi lingkungan mereka.
Bidang Kesiswaan dan Bidang Pendidikan SMP Taruna Jaya I Surabaya, akan bekerja sama untuk membangun pendidikan yang berpusat pada peserta didik. Kemudian, para siswa akan diberi kesempatan untuk membangun pemahaman mereka sendiri, melalui variasi pengajaran dan kegiatan kesiswaan yang ada. Jadi, apapun aktivitasnya, para siswa akan senantiasa dirangsang untuk memiliki aneka atribut yang dimaksud.
Para siswa didorong agar rerlibat dalam pengalaman langsung, sehingga mereka akan ditantang untuk aktif dalam menggunakan keterampilan berpikirnya, tampil responsif, dan mampu hadir sebagai pemecah masalah. Pengembangan siswa melalui sekolah, diselaraskan dengan penciptaan lingkungan pendidikan yang menyediakan konteks dalam dunia nyata, serta keberadaan isu-isu, yang kemudian dapat ditangkap oleh siswa dengan menggunakan konsep dan keterampilan yang mereka pelajari di sekolah.

Environment-based education often starts from the closest. It could start at home, school, family, or peers. In this case, SMP Taruna Jaya I Surabaya tries to encourage its students to understand and establish relationships with their surroundings. We assume, that environmental awareness, knowledge, and skills required for learning by students, will be able to contribute to the existence of the larger system. So, students will always be stimulated to address local issues, while still paying attention to broader issues, and have an understanding of the various causes, connections, and consequences for the development of their environmental conditions.
The Student Affairs and Education Sections of SMP Taruna Jaya I Surabaya, will work together to build student-centered education. Then, students will be given the opportunity to build their own understanding, through a variety of existing teaching and student activities. So, whatever the activity, students will always be stimulated to have the various attributes in question.
Students are encouraged to be involved in direct experience, so they will be challenged to actively use their thinking skills, appear responsive, and be able to attend as problem solvers. The development of students through schools, is aligned with the creation of an educational environment that provides context in the real world, as well as the existence of issues, which students can then capture by using the concepts and skills they learn in school.
